السرديات فرع معرفي، يحلّل مكونات وآليات المحكي، ولكلِّ محكيِّ موضوع هو الحكاية التي تُنقل إلى المتلقي بفعل سردي، هو السرد فالحكاية والسرد مكوّنان ضروريان لكي محكي، المحكم خطاب مكتوب يعرض حكاية، والسرد هو الفعل الذي يُنتج هذا المحكي.
والعملية السردية بإمكانها الإختفاء إلى أقصى حدّ ممكن لصالح الحكاية، وهنا ينسى المتلقي وجود السّارد، ويشعر كأنّه إزاء سرد شفّاف، يعبره مباشرة، ليجد نفسه داخل الأحداث المستحضرة، وكأنّها واقعيّة تجري أمامه.
في مقابل هذا السرد الشفاف يوجد نوع آخر من السرد، هو السرد الكثيف، وفيه يشير السارد إلى نفسه علناً كسارد، ويعلن عن نفسه كمنتج ومبتكر للمحكي، وفي هذه الحالة يكون المتلقي أمام كسرٍ للإبهام بالواقعية، ولا يكون بإمكانه أن يعيش الحكاية بسذاجة عن طريق الإستسلام للأحداث المسرودة.
هذا النزوع من الإشتغال اقتضى أن يكون إنطلاقه من داخل النصّ الروائي بفعل تفكيك بنيته وإستنطاقها، والتركيز على الفعل السردي الذي يستمدّ منه السارد اسمه ووظيفته الأساسية.
ولا يعني هذا الإشتغال أنه منحًى تجريدي لإقتصاره على مكوّنات السرد وآلياته، لأنه يعيد الحكاية في النص الروائي إلى الرحم الذي تشكّلت فيه، ونشأت في رحاب مكانه الجغرافي، وهو المجتمع عبر أبرز مراحله التاريخية، وبذلك يتمّ إكتشاف المعنى العميق للنص الروائي ودلالته الكليّة وأبعاده الجمالية، مما يجعله أكثر قابلية للتداول القرائي.
