جاءت لفظة (المصير) في القرآن الكريم في ثمانية وعشرين موضحاً، وهذا القول المصير يتضمن الإيمان باليوم الآخر؛ والإيمان باليوم الآخر هو من مقتضيات الإيمان بالله وفق التصور الإسلامي، الذي يقوم على اساس أن الله خلق الإنسان ليستخلفه في الأرض بعهد منه وشرط يتناول كل صغيرة وكبيرة من نشاطه على الأرض وأنه خلقه واستخلفه ليبتليه في حياته الدنيا، ثم ينال جزاءه بعد نهاية الإبتلاء ...
على قاعدة الإيمان بالله واليوم الآخر، يتحرى الدكتور محمد مكي عبد الرزاق لبيان مفهوم المصير للخلق والكون وذلك بردّه إلى أصول مصادره الرئيسة من الكتاب والسُّنة، وأقوال الأئمة المجتهدين من فقهاء الإسلام وعلماء التفسير البارزين في هذا الميدان.
يتألف الكتاب من بابين، الباب الأول هو عن مصير الإنسان، ويتحدث فيه المؤلف عن مصير (الطائعين) وهم: التائبين والصادقين والصابرين والصالحين والمتقين، ومصير (العاصين) وهم: الظالمين والفاسقين والكافرين والمشركين والمنافقين، كما يعرض المؤلف في هذا الباب "نعيم أهل الجنة" ويتحدث فيه عن "تصريف الجنة وصفات أهل الجنة وبيان نعيمها وفضل نعيمها على نعيم الدنيا". كما يعرض "عذاب أهل النار" ويتحدث فيه عن "النار وأوصافها وصفات أهلها وبيان عذابها وآلامها وخلود أهل النار فيها".
وأما الباب الثاني فكان بعنوان "مصير المخلوقات الأخرى" ويتحدث فيه المؤلف عن: مصير الملائكة وعلمهم ونهايتهم، ومصير الجن وإبليس والشياطين وعن: حقيقة المس ومصير الجن. كما يتحدث عن: مصير الحيوان والنبات ونهايتهما، ومصير الجمادات: الجبل والأرض والسماء والكواكب والنجوم والبحار والأنهار. وأخيراً خاتمة واستنتاجات.
