وبما أنه لا بد لكل شيء من أساس فلقد وضع هذا الكتاب ليبين بشكل سهل ومختصر أهم الأساسيات لعلم الأحياء الدقيقة لنقدمه لأعزائنا طلبة المهن الطبية في كليات المجتمع الأردنية، ولذلك حرصنا على أن تكون مفردات هذا الكتاب مطابقة لخطة جامعة البلقاء التطبيقي التي وضعت لتدريس مادة أساسيات علم الأحياء الدقيقة بجانبيها النظري والعملي.
حيث ضم الجانب النظر ثمان وحدات تحدثت الأولى عن الصفات العامة للأحياء الدقيقة، أما الثانية فكانت عن شكل وتركيب ونمو وتصنيف البكتيريا وتحدثت الثالثة عن التعقيم والتطهير والرابعة تناولت طرق وراثة البكتيريا والهندسة الوراثية، أما الخامسة فكانت عن المضادات الحيوية بأنواعها بينما السادسة والسابعة والثامنة فقد تحدثت بشكل عام عن الفيروسات والطفيليات والفطريات، أما الجانب العملي فتناول عدة تجارب مهمة متناسبة مع التطبيق العملي لفهم الطالب لمفردات هذه المادة.
ولقد جاء هذا الكتاب بشكل مبسط يحافظ على قيمة المعلومة العلمية مما يسهل على الطالب أخذ صورة عامة عن علم الأحياء الدقيقة ويفتح أمامه مجالاً واسعاً للبحث والإستزادة للحصول على معلومات أكثر وأوسع.
