في عمله الشعري "سونات الملائكة" يستحضر سمير سكماني الشاعر هوغُو أبرز أدباء الحقبة الرومانسية. الأديب الذي قال "أنا الذي ألبست الأدب الفرنسي القبعة الحمراء"، وها هو شاعرنا يعيد ذكراه "وجدتني أبدأ من جديد، أفيض في بحثي عنك، محاولاً النفاذَ إلى ينابيع عزمك ومواطن اتقادك، وكأني بك في الآونة تحضرُ، أصحبك، رحلة أوحيتَ لي فيها ما أوحيت: "لا شيء مقدساً قدر الحقيقة، وحدها تستحق أن نحيا لأجلها" (...) ها هي ذي "سونات الملائكة" أُهدِيكَها بدوري، أودعُها رقراق "أورينوكُو" الجميل، يحضنها، يحملها إليك. ما زال صوتك هناك ... يقيم في المُهج، في حنايا الروح، يرفرف فوق أكواخ الفقراء ...". هكذا يكتب سكماني عن هوغو، وهو يسير على درب الآلام ذاتها يصوغ لنا شعراً ملحمياً عن المقهورين، عن المظلومين، يطلب لهم الخلاص على طريقته، ومن حبر قلمه، فالشاعر لا يملك إلا الكلمة ينثرها على صفحات الديوان صرخة في وجه أعداء الإنسانية طالباً الخلاص.
في القصيدة المعنونة "سونات الخلاص، يقول الشاعر: "الحلمُ / مؤونة الفقراء / مركبة اسفارهم ... / أعجبُ لمن لا يذودُ / عن خشبةِ خلاصهِ الأخيرة!". بهذا البهاء اللغوي وعلى ترنيمة الوجع السلس، يُشرك الشاعر المتلقي ويقوده إلى مشهده الشعري طوعاً، فيصير الشكل والجوهر نهراً للغةِ الخلق والإبداع. وهو الشيء الذي ينسحب على كافة قصائد الديوان.
يضم الديوان ما يقارب التسعين قصيدة، وقد توزعت على العناوين الآتية: "سوناتْ الحرية" ، "سوناتْ الصرخة" ، "سوناتْ الحب على مقربة من الشمس" ، "سوناتْ الصوت" ، "سوناتْ الملائكة" (...) وقصائد أخرى.
