ابن الفوطي (642 - 723 هـ = 1244 - 1323 م)
عبد الرزاق بن أحمد بن محمد الصابوني المعروف بابن الفوطي، المروزي الأصل، الشيباني البغدادي أبو الفضل، كمال الدين: مؤرخ، يعد من الفلاسفة.
من ولد معن بن زائدة الشيباني.
ولد ببغداد وأسر في واقعتها مع التتار، فخلصه نصير الدين الطوسي.
وقرأ على الطوسي الحكمة والآداب.
وباشر خزانة الرصد بمراغة زهاء عشرة أعوام.
وعاد إلى بغداد سنة 679 ه، فصار خازن كتب (المستنصرية) زمنا.
وأقام مدة طويلة في تبريز، عند الوزير رشيد الدين الهمذاني، وقتل رشيد الدين (سنة 718 هـ) وأحرقت كتبه وكتب ابن الفوطي.
فعاد إلى بغداد، فاستقر إلى أن توفي فيها.
له (مجمع الآداب في معجم الأسماء والألقاب - ط) المجلد الرابع منه، في أربعة أقسام وهو كبير جدا، قيل: في خمسين مجلدا، و (درر الأصداف في غرر الأوصاف) كبير، و (تلقيح الإفهام) تاريخ، من نشأة العالم إلى خراب بغداد على يد التتار، و (نظم الدرر الناصعة في شعراء المئة السابعة) عدة مجلدات، و (الحوادث الجامعة، والتجارب النافعة، في المائة السابعة - ط) جزء منه.
طبع على أنه من تأليفه، ولم تصح نسبته إليه.
وله نظم جيد.
وكان يتقن الفارسية وله بها شعر.
والفوطي جده لأمه، نسبته إلى بيع الفوط.

كتاب مهم لكل قارىء يمتاز بأسلوبه السهل الشيّق مما يسهل تناول ما ورد فيه وترجع أهمية الكتاب إلى انه من الكتب النادرة التي أرّخت عصراً ندر فيه المؤرخون ولضياع ما ألف عن هذا العصر. ويبدأ الكتاب بأحداث السنة 626هـ، وينتهي بأحداث سنة 700هـ. ويعد الكتاب وثيقة تاريخية نادرة ومصدراً نفيساً في سرد وقائع تاريخ العراق في العصر المغولي وأحداث القرن السابع الهجري. وتعود أهميّة الكتاب إضافة لندرته إلى أهميّة مؤلفه ابن الفوطي الذي يعد من كبار العلماء.
