ولد في الكفرون في سورية عام 1933 توفي والده عندما كان بسن العاشرة فانتقلت عائلته للعيش في بيروت حيث نشأ.
عملت أمه وكافحت لتعيل العائلة وتعلم أبناءها.
حصل على شهادتي البكالوريوس والماجستير في علم الاجتماع من الجامعة الاميركية في بيروت ثم دكتوراه في علم النفس الاجتماعي من جامعة متشغن في الولايات المتحدة ( آن آربور) 1966 .
له العديد من المؤلفات والمقالات المنشورة منها القمم الخضراء (1956) الصمت والمطر (1958) ستة أيام (1961) عودة الطائر إلى البحر (1969) الرحيل بين السهم والوتر (1979) طائر الحوم (1988) إنانة والنهر (1995) المدينة الملونة (2006)
Book Description
"يعامل نائل البدري مع البحر بأساليب متنوعة غامضة على شاطئ سيدي عبد الرحمن غربي الإسكندرية مأخوذاً بألوانه وتحركاته ومسافاته وأبعاده. يخوضه كما يلتقي النهر بالبحر. يسرع حين يقترب من البحر يتموج مثله، يخشى فيه ويحوّل ألوانه، يصرخ مغنياً من أعماقه للأمواج: "نائل قتلني وغير ألواني". ويفكر أنه يتمتع بالأشياء، دون أن يعرف كيف يصفها، وعندما يصر تفقد جمالها وتتسرب من شقوق الذاكرة كما تتسرب المياه من بين أصابعه. يندفع نحو الأمواج المتدفقة، كما يفعل هو ورفاقه على شاطئ صور الجميل، فيخترقها سهماً إفريقياً ويخرج منها درفيلاً صغيراً يحب اللعب أكثر مما يحب التهام الأسماك. يرتفع مع الأمواج ويهبط نحو العمق. يدور على نفسه، يسرع ويتمهل، يتحرك في جميع الاتجاهات معاً، ينزلق تاركاً جسده يتخذ شكل الماء".
هكذا هو نائل البطل المحوري لرواية الرحيل بين السهم والوتر، إنسان يغوص في عمق الحياة، يتدافع وأحداثها، فمرة يطفو على وجهها، ومرات يغوص إلى أعماقها. إلا أنه يبقى صامداً أمام كل تحدياتها. من هذا المنظور بالإمكان قراءة هذا النص الروائي الذي يحمل معاني شتى وعميقة كما البحر وكما الحياة.
