الشاطبية هي من نظم الإمام الولي باتفاق، أحد الأئمة في الآفاق، الشيخ الصالح العلامة أبو القاسم، أو أبو مجد القاسم بن فِيْرُّه، بكسر الفاء وسكون الياء الممدودة وتشديد الراء المضمومة بلغة أعاجم الأندلس، ومعناه بالعربي: الحديد، ابن خلف بن أحمد الرعيني، نسبة إلى قبيلة من قبائل المغرب، الشاطبي نسبة إلى شاطبة وهي قرية بجزيرة الأندلس من بلاد المغرب. كان إماماً في علوم القرآن والتفسير، ناصحاً لكتاب الله تعالى، متقناً لأصول العربية، رحّالة في الحديث، تضبط نسخ الصحيحين من لفظه، غاية في الذكاء، عارفاً بعلم الرؤيا، مجيداً في النظم، متواضعاً لله تعالى، قدوة في الصلاح، ذا بصيرة صافية، له كرامات كثيرة شهيرة. ولد في آخر سنة 538هـ بشاطبة، وكان لا يتكلم إلا بما تدعو الضرورة إليه، لا يجلس للإقراء إلا في هيئة حسنة وخضوع واستكانة، ويمنع جلساءه من الخوض إلا في العلم والقرآن، وكان يعتل العلّة الشديدة ولا يشتكي ولا يتأوه.
له تصانيف حسنة. فمن نظمه، قصيدة داليه فيها خمسمائة بيت لخّص فيها كتاب التمهيد لابن عبد البر، من حفظها أحاط بالكتاب علماً، ومنه قصيدة رائية في مرسوم الخط. هذا وواسطة عقد تصانيفه هذا القصيد الذي سار في الأمصار، وتلقاه بالقبول علماء الأمصار، واجتهد الطلبة في حفظه بالليل والنهار، لكمال الانتفاع به في جميع الأقطار. كانت وفاة الإمام الشاطبي بمصر سنة 590هـ ودفن في تربة القاضي الفاضل، بالقرب من سفح جبل المقطم، جبل قلعة مصر فرعون، وتعرف تلك الناحية يسارية.
وفي هذا الكتاب إعراب للشاطبية للعالم الشهير الشيخ سيدي حسن بن الحاج عمر السيناوين المدرّس من الطبقة العليا في علوم القراءات بالجامع الأعظم جامع الزيتونة.
