النبوة لطف إليه يؤتيها الله من يشاء من عباده، ويختص من يريد من خلقه والنبوة اصطفاء واختيار ولا تكون إلا لمن اختاره الله تبارك وتعالى لها، ممن هم أهل لحملها، لأنها حمل ثقيل، وتكليف عظيم، لا يقدر عليه إلا أولوا العزم من الرجال، كما قال تعالى مخاطباً الأنبياء والرسل: "إنا سنلقي عليك قولاً ثقيلاً".
والنبوة لا تكون بالغلبة والقهر، وإنما هي اختيار من الله سبحانه وتعالى لأفضل خلقه، وصفوة عباده، يختارهم لحمل الرسالة، ويصطفيهم من بين سائر البشر وإلى ذلك أشار سبحانه وتعالى في كتابه العزيز: "الله يصطفي من الملائكة رسلاً من الناس إن الله سميع بصير".
ومن الأنبياء الذين اصطفاهم سبحانه وتعالى: "إن الله اصطفى آدم ونوحاً وآل إبراهيم وآل عمران على العالمين"، والكتاب الذي بين يدينا أختار سيرة 24 نبياً تحدث عنهم القرآن الكريم في كتابه وهدفه تسليط الضوء على ما في هذه القصص من العبر والمواعظ.
