"بير لاغركفيست" أحد كتاب السويد الخالدين، ولد سنة 1891 في بلدة صغيرة من الإقليم السويدي الجنوبي، قضى شطراً من حياته في الخارج، متنقلاً ما بين الدانمرك وإيطاليا وفرنسا.
تأثر بالفن التعبيري الجديد وانعكس هذا على تفكيره وأسلوبه الأدبي، وجعله يتحول من الطبيعية إلى البساطة القوية وتقاوة التعبير، له تقريباً أربعون كتاباً في مجالات متعددة من شعر ومسرحيات ومقالات وقصص.
ويعتبر كتاب "القزم" فاتحة شهرته العالمية، ومن كتبه أيضاً "الإبتسامة الأبدية"، "باراباس"ن "حاجّ في البحر"، و"الأرض المقدسة".
أما رواية "ضيف على الواقع" فهي مفتاح القارئ لعالم بير لاغركفيست... نال بير لاغركفيست جائزة نوبل للآداب سنة 1951، توفي سنة 1974.
