يعد المفكر عبد الرحمن بدوي من أغزر المهتمين بالفلسفة إنتاجاً ومن أكثرهم معرفةً بثقافات الشعوب ولغاتها، حتى بات هذا المفكر ظاهرة فكرية مستقلة بذاتها لا يشاركه فيها أحد، وإنك أحياناً تشك وتتساءل: كيف يتسنى للمرء إصدار أكثر من مائة وعشرة كتاب من بينها تحقيقات وترجمات للغات عدة منها: الإنجليزية والفرنسية والألمانية والإسبانية والإيطالية واليونانية، إلى جانب مئات المقالات والأبحاث المنشورة في الدوريات في حوالي خمسة وستين عاماً؟!! إذ امتدت هذه المؤلفات لتغطي تيارات فكرية واسعة، ومدارس فلسفية عدة وحقب زمنية طويلة، فقد كانت مؤلفات هذا المفكر الفيلسوف أكبر سياحة يقوم بها العقل الإنساني قد عرفها الإنسان في القرن العشرين على أقل تقدير، إذ شملت مؤلفاته الفلسفة الإسلامية بأقسامها وفروعها، والفلسفة اليونانية الوسيطة والحديثة والمعاصرة بأقسامها وفروعها، فلم يفته فرع من فروع الفلسفة إلا وكانت له فيه الكلمة الطولى.
هذا إلى جانب إهتمامه الكبير بالأدب العالمي ترجمةً ودراسةً، لكن مع الأسف الشديد وكما هو معتاد، لم يأخذ عبد الرحمن بدوي مكانه الذي يستحقه، ويليق به، على صعيد الدراسات الأكاديمية الجامعية وعلى صعيد الإعلام والصحافة، وحتى على صعيد الشارع العربي الإسلامي، إذ ظل بدوي مبعداً - إذا جاز التعبير - عن الأكاديمية العربية لسنوات عدة، كما أنه ظل مبعداً عن الأوساط والأنشطة الثقافية بكل ألوانها، ولم يكن بدوي إلا راغباً في ذلك كل الرغبة، ومع ذلك لم يستطع المدعون الذين يدجلون بالفكر أن يطالوا الكبير عبد الرحمن بدوي.
وها نحن أولاء اليوم نحاول إنصاف هذا الرجل ووضعه بالمكان اللائق، بالمكان الذي يستحق بعيداً عن الإندفاع والتعصب الأعمى قريباً من الموضوعية، ومما دفعنا أكثر لإختيار هذا الموضوع هو: قلة الكتب التي تناولت مشروع بدوي الكبير في الفكر العربي الإسلامي المعاصر.
