ترجع أهمية هذا الكتاب "تقويم النظر" إلى ما فيه من مسائل وفوائد، فإنه يشتمل على 372 مسألة من المسائل الفقهية المختلف فيها بين الإمامين الشافعي وأبي حنيفة، وكذا من القواعد والأصول الهامة النافعة، وأكثر فيه من ذكر الأدلة والتعليلات، مما جعل للكتاب أهمية في هذا العلم، أي: علم الخلاف، وجعله كذلك مرجعاً هاماً يمكن الرجوع إليه وقد نهج المصنف في هذا المؤلف نهجاً جديداً لم يسبق إليه، فقد بدأ كتابه بمقدمات نافعة تعين على النظر في هذه المسائل، ثم بعد ذلك صنع فهرساً لهذه المسائل التي تأتي في هذا الجدول، ثم أردفه بجدول المسائل المختلف فيها، يبدأ بذكر المسألة، ثم يذكر مذهب الشافعي، ثم يذكر مذهب أبي حنيفة، ثم يذكر مذهب مالك وأحمد، فإذا ما وافقا مذهب الشافعي قال: وفاق وإذا ما خالفا مذهب الشافعي قال خلاف، ثم يذكر بعد ذلك أدلة الفريقين مبتدئاً بالأدلة النقلية ثم يأتي بعد ذلك بالدليل من المعقول، وفي أثناء هذا يضع حواشي وهوامش مفيدة جداً تتعلق بالمسألة، ومن حول هذا الجدول وضع تعليقاً مفيداً ونافعاً على هذه المسائل التي في الجدول ثم ختم كتابه بخاتمة في أصل الجدل وآدابه، ثم أردفها بجدول يشتمل على تواريخ وفاة جماعة من الصحابة والأئمة والفقهاء والأنبه فالأنبه في العلوم الشرعية.
وقد بدأ المصنف جدوله بكتاب الطهارة، ثم الجنائز، الزكاة، الصيام، الحج، البيوع، ثم مسائل الربا، ثم البيوع الفاسدة ثم مسائل السلم، فالمأذون، فالرهن، ثم مسائل التفليس والحوالة والوكالة، والإقرار والغضب... والرضع، والجنايات، والحدود والقضاء والشهادات والعتق، أما المنهج الذي اتبعه المحقق فقد تجلى في ترقيم المسائل الفقهية، تخريج الأحاديث والآثار، بيان درجة الحديث، تخريج الآيات القرآنية، بيان الألفاظ الغريبة والتي تحتاج إلى توضيح، وضع فهارس علمية مفيدة للآيات القرآنية والأحاديث والآثار ومصادر التحقيق والموضوعات.
