إن تربية التداخل الثقافي تجد جذورها في هذا الواقع الجديد المفروض على الأفراد في العصر الحالي الحارين بين الركون إلى جماعتهم (أو طائفتهم) والوضعيات الخاصة بها وبين انخراطهم في العالمية، عالمية القيم والقيم والمواقف والتصرفات وفي هذا المجال تطرح مسألة "الفيرية" ومسؤولية الفرد تجاه الغير ومدى إمكانية تجاوز منطق "الذات" إلى منطق "الآخر". كما تجد هذه التربية دعماً لها في ديموقراطية المجتمعات الغربية التي تسمح للفرد بالانتماء إلى عدة ثقافات فرعية، وإلى عدة جماعات على عكس المجتمعات التقليدية،وفي العلمانية التي تلعب دوراً في التعالي فوق الخصوصيات فتسمح بأن يتم التعبير عنها دون أن يهدد ذلك مبدأ "إرادة العيش المشترك" إذ أنها الوسيلة إلى الحق بالاختلاف والانفتاح على الكونية. كما يدعم هذه التربية بل يشكل أحد أهدافها تعلم حقوق الإنسان حيث يجري تعليم القيم العالمية والديموقراطية. ورغم أن تربية التداخل الثقافي هي الخيار الأول للمجتمعات التعددية إلا أنها تواجه بعض الصعوبات ومنها تكيف أساليب التربية ومحتواها مع تلامذة المدارس لمختلف أصولهم وهي صعوبات يجري العمل عليها في المجالات العلمية المعنية كعلم النفس وعلم الاجتماع وسواها... ويبقى القول بأن تربية التداخل الثقافي هي أكثر من خيار تربوي، أنها تترجم رهاناً اجتماعياً، وما أحوجنا إليها. لذا يأتي هذا الكتاب الذي يبحث في موضوع التربية والتداخل الثقافي، وذلك ضمن قسمين. دار القسم الأول حول الثقافة بصورة عامة وحول التعددية الثقافية والتداخل الثقافي من منظور مستقبلي. أما القسم الثاني فقد دار حول تربية التداخل الثقافي مع بعض الأمثلة من الخارج في هذا المجال من الكيبيك وسويسرا وألمانيا.
