تأتي هذه الدراسة من سلسلة قضايا إسلامية معاصرة مفاهيم تنتمي في تداولها -الغالب-إلى حقل الفكر العربي بمكوناته القومية والعلمانية واليسارية والليبرالية وبعض الإسلامية... واختيار الباحث لهذه المصطلحات الثلاثة تأتي من اعتبار تأثيرها في الواقع الفكري للأمة وتوجيهها لكثير من قطاعاته غير وجهة النهوض المشترك. كما أن منهج النظر في هذه المفاهيم بقدر ما هو تحليلي تاريخي يكشف عن سيروتها وشروطها الموضوعية، هو كذلك نقدي لأوجه السلبية والقصور فيها، والتوظيفات النفعية المتحيزة والآثار المدمرة في الفكر والواقع، مع الحرص على الانتفاع بكل ما هو إيجابي فيها.
"النخبة" التي من المفروض أن تطلع بمهام التجديد والإصلاح والتغيير ونشر الوعي والمعرفة المساعدة على ذلك. وأن تحارب في ذاتها الانتفاع الشخصي، ولنقل "النخبوي"، أي ألا تتمركز النخبة حول ذاتها.
"الحداثة" وهي فكر النخبة بحكم الرواج الكبير والتداول الواسع، للأسف غير المقترن بالوعي اللازم، والذي يعمم الخطأ والسطحية والابتذال في الاستعمال الذي يطمس بدوره إمكانات الانتفاع الحقيقية والتفاعل الإيجابية، ويعبد طرقاً صورية وهمية إلى سراب (يحسبه الظمآن ماء حتى إذا جاءه لم يجده شيئاً). فكان الحديث عنها في سياقها الغربي وفي الإمكانات الذاتية لتوظيفها وفي أشكال تداولها واستعمالها.
"الأيديولوجيا" وهي مجال حركة النخبة بالحداثة -أو ما في معناها-حيث يسود منطق التبرير لا التحليل، والغموض والتمويه لا الدقة والتركيز، وحيث تصبح الأزمات حلولاً والحلول أزمات... وفي جملة تسمى الأشياء بغير أسمائها فتغدو الحقائق والثوابت والأصول (هشيما تذروه الرياح) في عصر سيولة حضارية شاملة.
فهذه مقاربة للعلاقة الجدلية بين هذه المفاهيم التي شكلت إلى جانب غيرها، جدار الخطاب العربي المعاصر وكانت لبنات أساسية فيه، والتي تحتاج إلى نقد وتصويب الفاعلين المستمر حتى يضع هذا الخطاب نفسه على مسار النهضة والتحديث والإصلاح والتغيير الحقيقي.
