تدور أحداث هذه الرواية حول جريمة قتل وقعت في مدينة بيروت. أما الضحية فهو شاب مشهور جداً في عالم الأزياء واسمه نادر سعيد، وهو شاب حساس جداً ومشكلته الأساسية هي شعوره الدائم بأنه لا يرتقي إلى مستوى عائلته العلمي لأنه فشل في دراسته، خصوصاً إذ كان يواجه سخرية من إخوته مما شكل له أزمة كبيرة، ما جعله يعيش حالة اكتئاب غير ظاهرة لأحد، على الرغم من نجاحه الكبير عارض أزياء.
إن قارىء هذا الكتاب سيشعر أنه يعرف هذه الشخصيات التي نصادفها في حياتنا اليومية وخصوصاً في بيروت. في النهاية اخترت العنوان من وحي أحداث القصة لأن زهرة الأوركيديا كانت أداة الجريمة التي كشفت القاتل.
