أعد هذا الكتاب ليكون مفرزاً ومصدراً لدارسي الرياضيات والعلوم التطبيقية في الجامعات والمعاهد العليا للفصل الأول من مقرر التحليل العددي.
يشتمل الكتاب على ستة فصول: الفصل الأول يناقش بعض الأساسيات الأولية وتحليل الأخطاء الناتجة من العمليات الحسابية والآلة الحاسبة؛ الفصل الثاني يحتوي على خوارزميات لحل المعادلات غير الخطية في متغير واحد، الفصل الثالث يناقش تقريب الدوال (الإستكمال)؛ الفصل الرابع يحتوي على خوارزميات مباشرة وغير مباشرة (تكرارية) لحل المنظومات الخطية، خوارزميات التفاضل التعددي والتكامل العددي توجد في الفصلين الخامس والسادس.
كتبت برامج بعض الخوارزميات بلغة الآلة الحاسبة ولغة الفورتران وتركت برمجة الخوارزميات الأخرى كتمرين للطالب، اللغتان بسيطتان ويمكن تحويل إحداهما إلى الأخرى بسهولة.
يتطلب الإلمام بلغة الفورتران أو لغة الآلة الحاسبة وإحداهما تكفي كذلك الإلمام بالتفاضل والتكامل، المعادلات التفاضلية العادية والمعادلات الجزئية تجعل الإستفادة من هذا الكتاب أفضل وأعم.
