يضم هذا الكتاب بين دفتيه مجموعة هامة من المقالات والأبحاث التي تسلط الأضواء على مدينة كركوك العراقية. جاءت المقالات بأقلام نخبة من الباحثين والمفكرين الكرد العراقيين إسهاماً منهم في إطلاع القراء على تاريخ هذه المنطقة وحضارتها وجغرافيتها وأنظمة الحكم التي تعاقبت على العراق وتأثيرها على مدينة كركوك، حيث تعاقبت على حكم المدينة حضارات وأجناس عديدة من البابليين والآشوريين واليونانيين والفرس والعرب والأتراك ثم العرب في عهود تكوين الدولة العراقية، هذا إضافة إلى الحكم الفعلي للكرد عليها منذ عهد الميديين إلى القرن التاسع عشر سواء بصورة مستقلة أو نيابة عن الحكام البعيدين عنها.
يتعرض الكتاب كذلك إلى انفجار حوادث العنف العنصرية والطائفية بتحريض من الأحزاب الفاشية والجماعات المتطرفة التي دُعمت من السلطات الديكتاتورية التي حكمت العراق ما بين الأمس واليوم في تحليل معمّق لسياسة التفرقة العنصرية والإضطهاد والقهر التي اتبعتها غالبية الأنظمة، وتمثلت بعدم السماح للقوميات الصغيرة بالتعبير عن نفسها وعن ثقافتها، فضلاً عن مصادرة حقوقها وعدم السماح لها بممارسة شعائرها والتمتع بالحرية في التعبير عن طموحاتها، حيث سمح هذا الوضع إلى ظهور اختراقات سافرة تمثلت بالإرهاب والإغتيالات ما فتح الطريق أمام المتطرفين من جميع الأطراف.
كتاب هام يسلّط الأضواء على قضية قديمة – حديثة تعاني منها شعوب العالم المتقدم منها والناحي وهي النظرة إلى "الأقليات العرقية الصغيرة والتعدد القومي" فكانت مدينة كركوك نموذجاً عما يحدث من عدم قبول الآخر، المختلف، فلا بد من الدعوة إلى ثقافة تجيز التعايش السلمي بين الشعوب لأن الكل هم من مكونات الوطن مهما اختلفت الأعراق والأديان والأجناس.
