لماذا بنية القصيدة العربية الحديثة... أردت الخوض في قضية الشعر العربي الحديث التي أراها حتمية تاريخية فنية مواكبة لتحديث المجتمع بعلومه وفنونه وأذواق بنيه، وهذا ممكن الوجود، لا بل واجب الوجود، فكانت مجلة "شعر" محط قراءاتي وتأملي، وميدان أبحاثي، لأني وجدت فيها سلامة التوجه المتخصص بالشعر الحديث، ووجدت في شعرائها وكتّابها صدق التجربة، وإيماناً راسخاً بإنتصار رؤيتهم الشعرية الحديثة المتكئة على مفهومي "الأصالة" و"الحداثة".
ومن البديهي أن ترفع رايات الصِّراع بين أنصار التفكير وأنصار التجديد في الوطن العربي على خلفية إيديولوجية، ولم يحسم الصِّراع حتى تاريخه لأنه محصّلة الجدلية إجتماعية سوف يؤدي الخوض في واحدة منها إلى الخوض في أصالة المجتمع وحداثته، لأن الشعر في تطلعاته الكبرى رفض للواقع المتخلف ونهوض نحو الأفضل.
