يتميز شعر الصحابة بالصدق فهو نابع من الإيمان بالدين الجديد، يحمل معاني لم تكن معروفة من قبل مستوحاة من تعاليم الإسلام، ومبادئه السماوية، وشعرهم أيضاً عفوي، وليد الحماسة للإسلام، نجد هذه العفوية خاصة في الأراجيز التي كان الصحابة يرتجلونها ويرددونها وهم يقاتلون جنباً إلى جنب حول رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم وتحت راية الإسلام في غزوات بدر وأحد وحنين وغيرها... من هذا الشعر اختار "منير القوال" أبياتاً ومقاطع جاءت في: المديح النبوية والجهاد في سبيل الله، والحكمة...
