موقف النصارى في هذا الموضوع موقف الدفاع عن عقيدتهم في الله الواحد والثالوث؛ ذلك أن القرآن الكريم يجعلهم مع المشركين لقولهم بالتثليث، فكان عليهم أن يجدوا في القرآن الكريم نفسه ما يجوّز التوفيق بين التوحيد والتثليث؛ فميّزوا بين الجوهر الإلهيّ الواحد الأقانيم الإلهيّة الثلاثة، ودفعوا بذلك عنهم تهمة الشرك، وبقي أن يُثبتوا أنّ الأقاليم لا تتجاوز الثلاثة.
