في مجموعتها الشعرية (النسر المسافر) تبدو الشاعرة "وعد جهني حاطوم" منشغلة باستحضار الذات بهمومها الخاصة، وإعلاء قيمة الألم الخاص، وطرحه كثيمة شعرية تتصدر أغلب قصائد المجموعة، كما تتفنن في كتابة الذات بعواطفها المشمولة بالحب والحنين والوجع على فراق من تحب ولا تزال بانتظاره فتخاطبه قائلة:
" يا سري المغادر / إنها ليلة رأس السنة "2006" / الناس في هرج ومرج / يودعون عاماً / ويستقبلون عاماً جديداً / الناس في صخب وجنون / وغفلة ... / وحدي أنا أقف مذهولة / تائهة وحيدة / في جوف قدري / في عمق أعماق زمن واحد / وتاريخ واحد وأخير !! / لم يتبدل ... ولن يتغير "14 – 8 – 2004 ...". بهذه اللغة، وعبر صور شعرية تتدفق على رسلها ترسم الشاعرة حاطوم عوالمها الخاصة من أقصى مكان في المخيلة، موظفة ضمير "المتكلم" المباشرة في تراكيبها الممتدة لفضح بؤر النص الداخلية، وتسليط الضوء على مركز ثقله عبر (الأنا) .. تقول الشاعرة في مفتتح العمل: "أنا نورسة جنوبية، قد فتني أمواج بحر مديني "صور" وحملتني الريح وحيدة عبر بحار الملح، وبحور الشعر، فتاهت عني دروبي والبوصلة. لم يبقَ لي مرسىً في مدينتي ولا شراع، ولا هجرتي هدتني إلى ميناء وقلاع ...".
يضم الكتاب ما يزيد عن الأربعين قصيدة تتراوح بين الشعر العربي الموزون والمقفى والشعر العربي الحديث جاءت تحت العناوين الآتية: "رويدك يا زمان" ، "رجاءً عانقيني" ، "رسالة إلى شاعر" ، "تعشقني لأني" ، "يا جميل الروح" ، "حدّثي يا نفس" ، "القصيدة الأنثى" ، "حكاية عطر" ، "مناجاة الروح" ، "رفيق من زمان الشيطنة" ، "الطبيب القاتل" ( ... ) وقصائد أخرى.
