المراهقة هي المرحلة الوسطى بين الطفولة وعهد الصبا. بهذا المعنى نفهم أن المراهق تخطى مرحلة الطفولة ولكنه لم يصل إلى مرحلة النضج الكامل. من هنا تبرز متاعب هذه المرحلة وخطورتها أيضاً. فهي مرحلة انتقال من حال إلى حال يصاحبها تغيرات فسيولوجية ونفسية، علماً أن هذه التغيرات تكون سريعة متلاحقة تفاجئ المراهق كما تفاجئ من حوله خصوصاً أبويه وإخوته، وهي تبدأ عموماً في سنّ الثانية عشر ويأفل نجمها بعد سنّ الثامنة عشر.
يأتي الكتاب في هذا الإطار ليشرح المؤلف من خلاله الظواهر العضوية (البيولوجية) والنفسية والاجتماعية المتعلق بكل فترة من فترات هذه المرحلة. وقد جاء الكتاب ضمن ثمانية فصول كانت على التوالي: 1-فسيولوجية البلوغ والتغيرات الجسمانية والنفسية، 2-المراهقون في المجتمع-واجبات الأهل والمربين والأصدقاء، 3-الاضطرابات النفسانية للمراهق، 4-جنوح المراهقين-اضطراب السلوك والانحراف الجنسي، 5-أمراض المراهقة العضوية، 6-العناية الصحية والعقلية والنفسية بالمراهقين، 7-مشاكل المراهقة وحلولها دليل إرشاد وتوجيه المراهقين، 8-خمسة عشر سؤالاً وجواباً في المراهقة والبلوغ.
وقد جاء في نهاية الكتاب خاتمة حوت تدريس الجنس للمراهقين أي الثقافة الجنسية للمراهقين كضرورة تطرح نفسها في أوساط الأهل والمؤسسات والمدارس على السواء.
