لم يعد اهتمام علم النفس منصباً فقط على الجوانب النظرية، بل تعدى ذلك إلى الاهتمام بالجوانب التطبيقية حيث نزل علم النفس إلى أرض الواقع وعمق المجتمع ليعالج مشاكل الحياة اليومية ولذلك ظهرتن فروع كثيرة لعلم النفس تتعلق بالجوانب المهنية والعملية، ورجل الأمن كغيره من العاملين في المهن الأخرى بحاجة إلى الإطلاع والإلمام بكل فروع علم النفس لاتصالها بطبيعة عمله ولكونه يعمل في ظروف خاصة تتطلب منه معرفة طرائق تفكير الناس والتعرف على دوافعهم وميولهم واتجاهاتهم وعاداتهم وحاجاتهم النفسية والاجتماعية والبيولوجية.
وفي هذا الكتاب يقدم المؤلف نماذج من موضوعات تهم رجال الأمن فيعرض لمفهوم الأمن وكيفية اختيار وانتقاء من يلتحق بكليات الشرطة ومعاهدها، كما يعرض لمفهوم الطب الشرعي ومجالاته وتطبيقات علم النفس في مجال الأمن والقضاء وبما أن الشهادة تلعب دوراً عاماً في بسط العدالة للسمات وإرساء قواعدها وصيانة الحقوق فإن المؤلف يعرض للسمات النفسية للشاهد العدل، إضافة إلى سلامة الحواس وتوفر القوى الإدراكية حيث يوضح المؤلف أن شهادة العيان دائماً انتقائية وأن الشاهد يدرك الأحداث إدراكا انتقائياً وليس كلياً وشمولياً أو إجمالياً، فلا يرى الشاهد كل ما يقع أمامه من أحداث.
كما يعرض المؤلف للقيادة وسمات القائد وخصائصه ووظائف القيادة، كما ويبحث المؤلف مشكلة الإدمان وعلاقته بالجريمة، كما يستعرض الكثير من التراث السيكولوجي الذي يدور حول مشكلة الأحداث الجانحين ويلفت إلى ضرورة القيام بدراسات مكثفة للتعرف على الأسباب النفسية والاجتماعية والتربوية والأسرية للانحراف. وقبل أن يقدم المؤلف بعضاً من ملامح القضاء في الإسلام يعرض للأمن الصناعي وحوادث العمل وإصاباته حيث تعد هذه المشكلة من أكثر المشاكل التي تسبب خسائر فادحة لكل من العمال وأصحاب الأعمال.
