لقد تَسنَّم النحو العربي الذروة العُليا من عناية نحاة الأندلس في القرنين السابع والثامن الهجريين، فكان في نهايةٍ من عُلوّ الطَّبقة، وكان النُّحَاةُ فيه - كما يقول المَقَّرِي - كأصحاب عصر الخليل وسيبويه، كثيري البحث فيه، وفي مذاهبه.
وقد نشأ بمدينة غَرْناطة في ذلك العصر أحد النحاة المُبَرزِّين، وهو الإمام أبو إسحاق الشاطبي (ت: 790هـ)، الذي برع في علوم مُتعدِّدة، فكان إماماً في النحو واللغة، وعلم البيان، والفقه وأصوله، والتفسير، والحديث، وغيرها من العلوم.
وقد تَصَدَّر هذا الإمام للإقراء بــ(الجامع الأعظم) بغَرْناطة مُدّة، وكانت مجالسه تتناول علوماً مُتعددة، كان من ضمنها النحو، وقد جعل من (ألفية) ابن مالك مُقرّراً لمجلسه النحوي، فكان يتناولها بالشرح والتعليق - على عادة عُلماء عَصره - ممَّا حدا به إلى وَضْع شَرْح مُطَوَّل عليها، غدا من أضخم المُصَنَّفات النحوية في كتب التراث.
وقد وَسَمَ هذا الشرح بــ(المَقَاصِد الشَّافية في شَرْح الخُلاصة الكَافية) - وهو مِحْوَر الدِّرَاسة - ويُعَدّ أوْسَع شُروح (ألفية) ابن مالك، وأغزرها، وأوفاها جَمْعاً وإستيفاء لمذاهب النحاة، وتعليلاتهم، وشَواهِدهم، مع البَسْط والتَّفصيل، فهو بِحقّ مَوْسوعة نَحْوية قيمة.
ومِمّا يَمتاز به هذا الشِّرح من غيره من شُروح (الألفية)، هو رَبْط مقاصد ابن مالك بالتُّراث النحوي الأصيل الذي يتمثل بكتاب سيبويه، وغيره من كتب النحو التي تُعْنَى بالنحو العِلْمي لا التْعليمي، والناظر في كتابه يراه وثيق الصِّلة بالتُّراث النحوي منذ نشأته حتى عصره، يعتمد في أكثر نُقولاته وتعليلاته على مصادر النحو الأولى، وما جاء بعدها من المُصنَّفات العالية، فهذه الطريقة عنده من أعدل المناهج لِمَن يُريد أن يَتَعرَّف أصول العلم، وقد إلتزمها في جميع مصنفاته الأصولية واللغوية.
وقد عمد الباحث في هذا الكتاب إلى دراسة الخُطوط الرئيسة التي سار عليها البحث النحوي لدى الشاطبي، والتي قامت بإثِراء تفكيره وتوجيهه، وقد جاء تقسيم هذا الكتاب في ثلاثة فصول وخاتمة، تناول الفصل الأول: التعريف بالشاطبي، وبكتابه (المقاصد الشافية)، وتناول الفصل الثاني: أصول النحو وأدلته عند الشاطبي، وقد جاء هذا الفصل في: السماع، والقياس، والتعليل، ونظرية العامل، والإجماع، وإستصحاب الحال.
وتناول الفصل الثالث: مذهب الشاطبي النحوي، في: موقف الشاطبي من المذهب البصري والمذهب الكوفي والمذهب البغدادي ونحاة الأندلس، وكذلك تناول الفصل موقف الشاطبي من سيبويه وموقفه من ابن مالك صاحب (الألفية).
