لا يقصد المؤلف من عمله هذا إعطاء وجهة نظر فقهية خاصة به، بل كانت دراساته هذه بياناً لكليات عقائدية تاريخية فقهية ينبغي وحسب قوله أن يعرفها ويتعرف عليها كل مسلم غير جامد على منهج خاص ونسق معروف عند طبقة خاصة من الفقهاء والمؤرخين والكتاب.
وقد عني المؤلف في عمله هذا برفع الغامض وحلّ المبهم من المسائل وأراد أن ينتقل بالقارئ إلى واحات العلم وميادين المعرفة، من الفقه إلى التفسير، إلى التاريخ، إلى الرجال، إلى الحديث، إلى اللغة، وغلى كل شيء مميت للبحث بصلة.
فالغاية من دراسته هذه إذا هي بيان كليات وأمهات المسائل لا جزئياتها وسننها ومستحباتها، فلا تعني بحوثه بمثل فضل الأذان والمؤذن، أو جواز آذان المرأة، والصبي وعدمها، أو جواز إعطاء الأجرة على الآذان أم لا، وغيرها من عشرات المسائل المطروحة. وكذلك ما يتصل بالوضوء، فلم تكون دراسة هذه متجهة إلى بيان حدود الأعضاء المغسولة والممسوحة، وكيفية وضوء رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم.
وهكذا جعل المؤلف دراسته عن الآذان عما هو الأصيل منه والمحرف فجاءت في ثلاثة أبواب: الباب الأول "حي على خير العمل" الشرعية والشعارية، الباب الثاني "الصلاة خير من النوم" شرعة أم بدعة؟ الباب الثالث: "أشهد أن علياً ولي الله" بين الشرعية والابتداع.
وقدم لهذه الأبواب بعض البحوث التمهيدية، كالآذان لغة واصطلاحاً وكبيان ما قاله أهل السنة والجماعة بمذاهبهم الأربعة، والشيعة بفرقها الثلاث في بدء الآذان، ثم كانت له وقفة مع أحاديث الرؤيا، ثم تحقيق في ما وراء نظرية الرؤيا.
