"العقبة" مجموعة قصصة قصيرة للمؤلف الدكتور "سامي قباوة" يلامس غيّرها الواقع المجتمعي المُعاش لشخصيات قصصه القصيرة، والتي يرسمها "قباوي" بدقة لتؤشر على البعد العام بشرائح ونماذج فردية من المجتمع، بعضها يتشابه في موقعه وواقعه، وبعضها الآخر يغترب عن ذاته، ويعيش عاطفة مثبطة وفوضى الحواس، وقصصاً أخرى يقترب الراوي فيها من هموم أهلنا في فلسطين المحتلة في يومياتهم تحت الإحتلال.
في "العتبة" يكشف الراوي عن علاقة سيكولوجية معقدة يقف فيها بطل الرواية بين ذاته المتسائلة عن جدوى البقاء، وبين الرغبة في الإنتقال إلى العالم الآخر والخلود، حيث يتساءل البطل "عبد الملك" في جدوى وجود الإنسان على الأرض ما دام موعوداً بالفناء؛ أسئلة تتنابه بقوة عندما يتعرض لحادث سيارة، فتنبثق فجأة حقيقة الموت ساطعة أمامه "الآن بت واحداً منا يا ملك... لقد تجاوزت العتبة ودخلت إلى عالم الخلود" "شعر بنشوة عارمة لسماع ذلك بعد أن أيقن تماماً إستقراره هنا إلى الأبد...".
أما في قصصه اللاحقة فيدخل الروائي في وغل العلاقات الإجتماعية، ودوامة هموم وشجون الناس والآثار السلبية والإعوجاجات والتجريحات التي تطال الشخصية الإنسانية متسخدماً أسلوب البوح والإعتراف وأحاديث النفس الداخلية، كما أن بعضاً منها اعتنت بالحلم على طريقة الرومانسيين والرمزيين.
هذا ويضم الكتاب أربعون قصة قصيرة عبرت عن رؤى مثقف معاصر بنصوص واسمة شكلها ومضمونها القصصيين في بعدها الإنساني العميق.
