ويقدّر حكماء الماهانية أن بوذا لم يعترف بواقعية العالم المحسوس واعتد أنه لا يوجد إلا في شعورنا، وأن العالم الخارجي ليس إلا مجموعة من التصورات التي نحملها في أنفسنا.
وفي الوجد والتركيز الروحاني يتحرر الإنسان من وهم الإعتقاد بأن العالم المحسوس هو عالم حقيقي، وذهب حكماء آخرون إلى أن العالم الخارجي ليس وحده وهماً بل إيمان الإنسان بوجوده الشخصي وبإدراكه الشخصي وهم أيضاً وذلك ما يسمى بمذهب "العدم المطلق".
