لا شك في أن القوة الرمزية لنحلة العسل ثابت إنساني أصغر الحيوانات النافعة جميعاً، لا تهب الإنسان إسهامها الإلقاحي في نشوء الفواكه والخضار وحسب، وإنما تهبه أيضاً غذاء ومادة تحلية وأنواع الشموع، وذلك بعملها وشمعها، ودواءٌ ناجماً في أشكال متنوعة ورموزاً هبة وأفكاراً عميقة.
لقد استدعت النحلة طقوساً دينية وجرت إلى نشوء خرافات وقصص أعجوبية كما رمزت إلى الحس الجماعي والتضحية بالنفس والإحتياط للمستقبل والنظام الموزون والطهارة والإجتهاد والمثابرة والوفرة، غير أنها رمزت أيضاً إلى السحر والتنبؤ إلى الروح والإلهاء.
