في مشهد ذو رمزية بالغة، يحاكي الكاتب "يثرب العالي" شخصيات روايته "أبيض أحياناً"، يستنبطها من عالم الحيوان أحياناً، وعالم الإنسان أحياناً أخرى.
"الديك ريشة" "فاتن الدجاجة الأجمل" "العصفور" "الديدان". أما عالم الإنسان يجسده الروائي في عدة قصص قصيرة، تعكس عدة جوانب من حياة الناس، فلكل رجل حكاية، ولكل امرأة حلماً، حياة يعيشها أبطال روايته تتخللها خيبات أمل وفراق، تساؤلات وتأملات، ولكن دائماً هناك شعاع أمل في هذه الحياة حتى ولو كان واهياً، يرسمه الكاتب بالحب وبالصدق والوفاء مع الآخر، وليس بالقدر والخيانة، هذا ما أراد أن يعبر عنه، فهذه الرواية تجمع في خباياها مواقف مؤثرة وأفكار لا بد وأن تقحم دماغنا وتكدر صفو حياتنا، فدائماً في حياة البشر ثنائية موجودة شئنا أن أبينا، الحياة والموت، الحب والتراجعية، الأنا والنحن، الخير والشر، عبر عنها الكاتب أصدق تعبير فجسدها في حالات مختلفة وألوان من البشر يختلفون في أحلامهم، وفي كبريائهم، يعيشون ظروفاً مختلفة وأماكن مختلفة، ولكنهم مازالوا يحلمون فجميعهم شيء واحد أو حلم واحد يجمعهم "حب الحياة"، مع علمهم أن الموت قادم لا محالة.
في صبيحة نيسان الأولى، كنت وزميلي الدكتور حسن نقوم بذات الأعمال الرتيبة كل يوم.
كر شهر أو أكثر ونحن عالقان في ذات المتاهة، لم يكن لنا نصيب من المرض سوى من عصفت بهم جلطة دماغية فأقعدتهم وأخرست الكثير منهم، وعفت عن ألسنة البعض منهم لتتركها لقمة سائفة لصمت الاكتئاب.
ثمة فتاتان فقط للخروج من هذا الدهليز يا هدى، إما الرفيق الأدنى -دار المسنين- أو الرفيق الأعلى، فأيهما شئت أن تختاري لك ذلك!".
مجموعة قصصية مشوقة، تضيء على جوانب عدة من حياة البشري فيها من صدق وغدر، من حب وكراهية، من حزن وفرح، فرسمت عالماً مليء بالتنوع والاختلاف.
