يتضمن هذا الكتاب بين طياته دراسة أعدها الدكتور طارق خليل السعدي أستاذ مقارنة الأديان والاستشراق والحركات الفكرية المعاصرة في جامعة بيروت الإسلامية وتحدث فيها عن عقائد ومصادر الأديان السماوية: اليهودية والمسيحية والإسلام والأديان الوضعية، الهندوسية والجينية والبوذية. في الفصل الأول قام بتعريف الدين، وبتوضيح مفهومه الصحيح، ثم بواعث التدين الفطرية ووظيفة الدين في حياة الفرد والمجتمع، وتوقف عند علم مقارنة الأديان.
وتحدث في الفصل الثاني عن اليهودية، فعرض لتاريخ بني إسرائيل -خروج موسى ببني إسرائيل وسبب إغراق فرعون- مصادر الفكر الديني اليهودي، عقائد اليهود، الفرق في اليهودية، الثوراة والعهد القديم، أنبياء بني إسرائيل. أما الفصل الثالث فخصصه للديانة المسيحية، فتحدث المسيح والمسيحية من وجهة النظر الإسلامية والمسيحية، التثليث صلب المسيح، المسيح والدينونة، المصادر الحقيقية للمعتقدات المسيحية، طبيعة المسيح والآراء حولها، الكتاب المقدس. وأخيراً تحدث في الفصل الرابع والخير عند الأديان غير الكتابية والتي هي: الهندوسية عقائدها، كتبها الجينية: نشاؤها-عقائدها-البوذية: بوذا-تعاليم البوذية.
