بعد أن أفاقت من الغيبوبة في المستشفى، قالت له بحزم، بعدما راوغ طويلاً: "بالأمس واليوم وغداً... وإلى الأبد... إذا كنت تريدني فاطلبني إذن... اطلبني بجرأة وثقة كرجل، لا كمجرد ذَكَر... لكن إذا كنت ستعود إلى ذكر أي أسباب أخرى عدا الحب، فليكن الله في عوني وعونك، سأضع لك السُّمَّ في قهوتك"!...
وكانت المفاجأة أنها فتحت عينيها فشاهدته ينظر إليها وكأنه توّاقٌ من أعماله لسماع هذه الحقيقة...
ثم (...) ستعرفون أنتم كفاية الحقيقة عند السطور الأخيرة من هذه الرواية الأخاذة، كشّافة المواقف والأدوار، والأقنعة الزائفة؟...
