هذه الرسالة، تَبحثُ عن الحديث النبوي المشهور، وهو أن النبي قال، قال الله تعالى: "لا إله إلا الله حِصْني فمن دَخَل حَصنِي أمِنَ مِنْ عَذابي".
فقد تعرض بشرح هذا الحديث وتفسيره، جماعةً من علماء الإسلام في الزمن السّالف، ويوجدُ الآن بضعُ رسائل مخطوطة فيما يرجعُ لذلك.
أما تفسير الإمام أحمد الغزالي في هذه الرسالة، فهو تفسير خاص بنفسِه، فهو لم يدخل في التفسير على أنه فيلسوف يبحثُ عن المعقولات والمفاهيم التي لا يدركها الفقهم والعقلُ، ولا أنه عارفٌ يبحثُ عن الشطحاتِ العرفانيةِ والآراءِ الخارجةِ عن حدود التعقل والإدراكِ، ولا على أنه متشرعٌ سطحيٍّ، بل بعنوانِ: إنه فيلسوفٌ متألهٌ، وعارفٌ متشرعٌ، وواعظٌ متّعظٌ وحكيمٌ، وعالِمٌ أخلاقيٍّ.
