هذا الكتاب يجمع تعليقات السيد محمد الهاشمي الشاهرودي حول كتابه (بحوث في علم الأصول) الذي هو تقرير لأبحاث السيد محمد باقر الصدر، والتي تدور حول ما انتهى إليه الفكر الأصولي للسيد الصدر. وقد جمعها المؤلف وألحقها "في دراسة مخصصة بالأجزاء السابقة من (بحوث في علم الأصول) فتكتمل هذه الموسوعة الأصولية عشرة أجزاء". وقد حاول المؤلف كما يقول: "أن تكون مشتملة على توضيح ما هو مغلق من عبارات التقرير وإضافة ما ينبغي اضافته من اقوال واستدلالات... ونكات أو مناقشات".
