في الحكاية الأولى، دفاتر سقراط: صياغة أدبية لمحاورات أفلاطون-تلميذ سقراط-الفلسفية مضافاً إليها-كما يقول المؤلف في مقدمته-حكاية من هنا، ونادرة من هناك اقتبسها مما روي عن سقراط في مؤلفات عدة.
وفي الحكاية الثانية، رسالة إلى قيصر: تصوير رائع لما يدور في دولة يحكمها ظالم.
إن الكتاب في مجمله، يرسم صورة سقراط المعلم الفاضل في حكايته الأولى، ويبين للقارئ الظلم في الحكاية الثانية. فهو تحفة فلسفية تاريخية صيغت بأسلوب أدبي جذاب.
