انطلاقاً من مجموعة الدراسات والأبحاث التي قدمها الدكتور محمد الرحموني في سياق بحثه في المفاهيم القرآنية، منها الجهاد والجاهلية..، وجد أمامه باباً مشرّعاً لإعادة النظر في مفهوم، وإن بدا قديماً، إلا أنه بات مثيراً للجدل، ألا وهو مفهوم "الدهر".
من هنا، قرأ الرحموني موضوع "الدهر" قراءةً واسعةً مرتكزة على القرآن الكريم، ووزع كتابه على قسمين: تناول الأول، ماهية الدهر من حيث اللغة والفلسفة وكتب التفسير، وتناول الثاني مفهوم الدهر باعتباره "إحساساً أعرابياً بالزمان" لا يمكن إدراكه إلا بإدراك المكان الذي يرتبط به.
فلما كان الأعراب يتحركون في فضاء بعيد عن المدينة ومؤسساتها، وجدناهم جاهلين تتخبط حركتهم بصورة عشوائية وتترجم إلى أتباع وهوى، وهذا، بدوره، استدعى النظر في قفا المكان الذي يتحرك فيه البدوي، وهو الزمان المعبّر عنه في القرآن بـ "الدهر"، فالتحكم بالزمان يضفي قيمة على الأعمال الإنسانية من جهة، ويخلق قدرة على بناء مختلف مستويات المجتمع من جهة ثانية. ولا يتم ذلك إلا من خلال عقلنة الزمان وإدراك المكان، والنتيجة ستكون نقلة نوعية من الجهل إلى العلم ومن الصحراء إلى المدينة ومن الضلال إلى الهدى.
