تشكل هذه الدراسة، حلقة من سلسلة، وقد تناولت شخصية من شخصيات بلاد الأندلس من عصورها المتأخرة، تعنى في القرن الثامن الهجري، حيث تعرضت الممالك الإسلامية، في تلك الفترة إلى هجمات الفرنجة الذين بدءوا يستردون المدن، الواحدة تلو الأخرى، فشهد الأدب حالة من الجمود والمراوحة حيناً، والتقهقر حيناً آخر، إلاّ أن الدارسين، إلا أن الدارسين، قد أهملوا دراسة لسان الدين ابن الخطيب بشكل عام وشامل، ومن جميع جوانب شخصيته: الأدبية والفكرية والسياسية والدينية، وإن تعرّض البعض إليه، فلم يتجاوز الإلمام السريع، أو الإشارة التي تغني ولا تسمن.
