ويقع الكتاب في حوالي 7 أقسام، القسم الأول يختص بالحديث عن الفلك بين الحقيقة والأسطورة والعيون الكونية، والقسم الثاني يشتمل على عديد من المفاهيم والمصطلحات الضرورية، والقسم الثالث يتناول وحدات الكون الرئيسية من مجرات وسدام ونجوم، والقسم الرابع عن المجموعة الشمسية وأفرادها ومولد كواكب المجموعة، والشمس، والأرض ومجموعة الكواكب العملاقة والقسم الخامس من الكتاب عن الأرض والقمر، وتضاريس القمر ودورانه وخصائصه وجغرافيته، والقسم السادس عن أجرام أخرى في السماء، مثل النجميات أو الكويكبات والخصائص العامة لهما، والشهب والنيازك والمذنبات، والقسم السابع والأخير يدور حول التأججات الشمسية والكلف الشمسي والشفق القطبي، والتقويم والزمن
