إن علم الفقه من أهم العلوم وأشرفها وأعظمها وأكملها. فيه يكون الإنسان بصيراً بأحكام دينه وشريعته, من عبادات ومعاملات ومناكحات, ومواريث, وغير ذلك مما هو متعلق بعلم الفقه. وبه يكون من قال الله تعالى عنهم: (ومن يؤت الحكمة فقد أوتي خيراً كثيراً), هذا وقد قال العلماء: يفترض على كل مكلف أن يتعلم من علوم الدين ما تصح به عقيدته أولاً, وما تصح به عبادته, وما تصح به معاملاته. ولما كان لابد لكل مكلف بالعبادات أن يعرف أحكامها, وكانت الصلوات الخمس فريضة على جميع المكلفين, غنيهم وفقيرهم, ذكرهم وأنثاهم, ولم يسمح الشرع الشريف بتركها ولو في صف القتال, كان لابد من تعلم أحكامها, شروطها, وأركانها, وواجباتها وسننها ومندوباتها, ومكروهاتها, وفرضها ونفلها, الى آخر ما يتعلق بها. فجاء هذا الكتاب يتكفل ببيان ذلك بشكل مفصل, وتوضيح مسهب ومطول, بحيث يضع الناظر فيه على مهمات المسائل ومشكلاتها.
الدمشقي: هو عبد الرحمن بن محمد عماد الدين بن محمد بن محمد بن محمد بن محمد بن عماد الدين العمادي الحنفي الدمشقي, أحد أفراد الدهر, وأعيان العلم, وأعلام الفضل, وهو المفتي بالشام, أهم مؤلفاته: المنسك المشهور الذي سماه بالمستطاع من الزاد, الروضة الريّا فيمن دفن بداريا, وله رسائل كثيرة في سائر الفنون ومنشآت وأشعار أكثرها لطيف المسلك حسن الموقع. كانت ولادته ليلة الثلاثاء رابع عشر ربيع الآخر سنة ثمان وسبعين وتسع مئة, وكانت وفاته ليلة الأحد سابع جمادى الأولى سنة إحدى وخمسين وألف, ودفن الى جانب والده بمقبرة باب الصغير.
