تجمع الدراسات والمقالات التي يضمها هذا الكتاب بين منحيين: نظري وتطبيقي من الإشتغال النقدي، وهي حصيلة إهتمامات خاصة بموضوعات محددة في حقل المسرح - نصاً، وعرضاً، ونقداً، وتقنية - كُتبت في مناسبات عدة منها: إستجابة لأسئلة المعرفة المسرحية ورغبة في إستقصاء ظواهر فنية في الخطاب المسرحي، كالبوليفونية (تعدد الأصوات)، والميتامسرحية، والتشخيص، والتغريب، والمونودراما، والسينوغرافيا، والكشف عن تجلياتها في التجربة المسرحية العربية والأجنبية، ومنها محاولة إستئناف النظر في المقاربات المنهجية الخارجية في النقد المسرحي، التي باتت عرضت للتشكيك في فاعليتها، أو جدواها أمام المقاربات الداخلية التي اقترحتها المناهج النقدية الحديثة، وتحديد إشكالية طروحاتها وإستراتيجيتها التي تنهض عليها في تحليل المتخيَّل المسرحي.
