وائي أديب عمل صحافياً في مدينة طرابلس بلبنان، ثم رأس تحرير النهار الدولي، وهو عضو نقابة المحررين وعضو نادي القصة منذ عام 1960.
والديري من مواليد دده (الكورة) شمال لبنان عام 1937.
درس في مدارس طرابلس.
وهو الآن يعمل كمحلل سياسي لإذاعة الشرق في باريس.
من مؤلفاته القصصية: الرجل الأخير، جدار الصمت، الفارسي القتيل يترجل.
Book Description
في روايته "الطريق إلى مورينا" يصور الياس الديري المجتمع اللبناني في النصف الأول من القرن العشرين، من خلال قرية صغيرة تسمى "عين الظهر" وحكاية حبٌ وهزيمة أبطالها "ماجد الصوري" ، و "ياسمين" التي كانت محط أنظار القرويين وأجمل بناتهم.
ولأن الحب محرم في تقاليد المجتمع وثقافته الذكورية، يغادر "ماجد الصوري" القرية لمدة عشرة أعوام، بعد افتضاح علاقة حبه بياسمين "حدث ذلك وياسمين لا تعرف كيف تمنع أمها من الإسترسال في الظن. لم يكن بالإمكان إيقافها عند حد. كانت خائفة ومتأكدة أن ماجد افترس إبنتها، وأن العار طبع قدميه الغليظتين على عتبة بيتهم (...) ووضعت الداية يداً مشكوكة بالعروق اليابسة في رأس ياسمين تحسست صدرها. مدت يدها المرتجفة إلى بطنها متمتمة: "بمعرفة مورينا وحامل الآلام ...". وعلى الأثر يغادر الصوري القرية ليترك ياسمين تواجه قدرها بمفردها، في تلك اللحظة تذكرت الفتاة ما قاله ماجد لها: "السعادة نسبية، ما هي السعادة؟ لا سعادة. هناك خدعة. هناك أرض مسطحة ثابتة فوق برك مائية. وهناك وهمٌ يدور ويدور ويظل يدور. وما دام الوهم يعيش في صدورنا فإن الدوامة ستظل تحمل ضحاياها، وسنظل نحن نقوم بدور الضحية. ليس لك عندي سوى الضجر والصمت. ولكن أحبك". هذه الرواية بأحداثها ووقائعها وشخوصها، تم تقديمها في بناء فني متماسك، ولغة سردية تتسم بقدر كبير من السلاسة في التعبير، وحوار متنوع يختلف باختلاف الشخصيات المتحاورة، وتطغى عليه النديّة بين المتحاورين، ليشكل بالنهاية صورة عن علاقات الريف وعالمه في تلك الفترة.
