يروم البحث إثبات ملازمة الميثولوجيا مع المعتقدات الدينية عند العرب قبل الإسلام؛ ومبعث هذا التلازم نستشفه من الأسئلة التي دارت في خُلد الإنسان العربي القديم، ولا سيما فيما يخص الجوانب الميتافيزيقيا وأثرها في حياة الإنسان، وما ترتّب على هذا الأثر من انعكاسات في الجوانب الإجتماعية والإقتصادية والسياسية بمختلف تشعباتها. إذ إن عجز الإنسان عن إعطاء إجابات واقعية مقنعة ذهب في تفكيره إلى مديات بعيدة لإيجاد إجابات نحت منحاً أسطورياً، لذا ارتبط الدين بالميثالوجيا، فهي من وجّهته ورسمت مرتكازته الأساس. والذي يهمنا في هذا المقام: التعرف على أثر الميثولوجيا في المعتقدات الدينية عند العرب قبل الإسلام: كونها شكلت أسس المعتقدات التي لازمت الإنسان العربي في مناحي حياته كافة، فضلاً عما تركه من راسب في حياته سواء أكان على مستوى السلم (حياته الإعتيادية الهادئة بكل تفصيلاتها) أم في الحروب التي خاض أوارها غازياً أو مدافعاً ... واقترنت الميثولوجيا بالعقلية العربية إلى أبعد مدياتها إذا اردنا القول: إن الميثولوجيا تُنقل من ذهنية إلى أخرى بفعل التأثير أو التقادم الحضاري. فالميثولوجيا الدينية عند العرب يقبل الإسلام في أغلبها هي إعادة إنتاج لميثولوجيا المنطقة.
