إن الإمام ابن الجوزي-رحمه الله-كان إمام أهل عصره في التفسير وفنونه، وإليه انتهت معرفة الحديث وعلومه، والوقوف على صحيحه من سقيمه. وكانت له تصانيف قيل أنها تزيد على ثلاثمائة وأربعين مصنفاً، ولكنه كان له أخطاء فيما يصنف ومن هذه المصنفات التي كثر خطأ ابن الجوزي منها كتابيه: "الموضوعات" و"العلل المتناهية". وقد تصدى الإمام الحافظ الذهبي لهذا الكتاب فاختصره وهذبه ونقحه، وتعقب ابن الجوزي فيما وقع فيه من أوهام، فزاد من قيمة هذا الكتاب ورفع من شأنه عند أهل الفن وسماه بـ "تلخيص كتاب الموضوعات" وقد قام المحقق ياسر بن إبراهيم بن محمد بالعمل على تحقيق هذا الكتاب لتيسير الانتفاع به.
