يعد هذا الكتاب والمسمى بمسند ابن الجعد من الكتب النادرة المسلك في الرواية فلا يوجد في غالب كتب الرجال من يذكر أخبار الرواة من المشايخ بالأسانيد ولا في غير هذا الكتاب من كتب المسانيد واشتمل على جزالة من أقوال هؤلاء المشايخ من الرواة بالأسانيد كما الحال في هذا المسند، فضلاً عن علو الإسناد وذلك بسبب طول عمر صاحبه مع الضبط التام، وطول عمر راويه مع الضبط التام مع الإشارة إلى أن صاحب المسند من مشايخ الإمام البخاري الذين أخرج عنهم في الصحيح وأن تلاميذه من كبار أئمة الجرح والتعديل كيحيى بن معين وأبي حاتم الرازي وأبي زرعة الرازي.
"مسند ابن الجعد" كتاب في الحديث الشريف يحتوي على مرويات الإمام الحافظ علي بن الجعد بن عبيد الجوهري من الأحاديث النبوية الشريفة، وقد قام بجمعه وروايته الحافظ الثقة الكبير أبي القاسم عبد الله بن محمد البغوي وقد رتبه على حسب شيوخ ابن الجعد الذين روى عنهم الحديث. وعلى الكتاب مراجعة وتعليق وفي آخره فهارس علمية عامة للكتاب.
