تأتي أهمية هذا الكتاب من تضافر أمور عدة، أهمها: 1-أنه الأثر الوحيد الباقي لمؤلفه. 2-يحتوي على تراجم لا توجد إلا في هذا الكتاب. 3-يضم بين دفتيه أشعاراً وقصائد بلغ مجموع أبياتها أكثر من خمسمئة بيت، لم ترد في أي كتاب آخر، فهو بهذا يضيف إلى المكتبة العربية ديواناً جديداً من شعر شعراء الجزيرة الفراتية. 4-كان لتنوع ثقافة المؤلف أثر كبير في ترتيب مصنفه هذا، أو لنقل: إن كتابه كان صدى لثقافته وعلمه الغزير، فقد ترجم للحفاظ والقراء لأنه حافظ قارئ، وترجم للمحدثين لأنه محدث، وترجم للنحويين واللغويين لأنه نحوي لغوي، وترجم للأطباء لأنه طبيب، وترجم للشعراء لأنه شاعر.
قال ابن المستوفي في تاريخ إربل:"عمر الدنيسري: هو أبو حفص عمر بن الخضر بن اللمش التركي الدنيسري ورد إربل في سنة اثنتين وستمائة لما سمع أن عمر بن محمد بن طبرزد بإربل وسمع عليه الحديث وعلى غيره.. وقال الصفدي في الوافي بالوفيات نقلاً عن تاريخ الإسلام للذهبي: "كمال الدين الدنيسري الشافعي: عمر بن أللمش بن ألدزمش بن إسرائيل الحافظ العالم الحكيم كمال الدين الدنيسري أبو حفص التركي الشافعي: سمع ابن الجوزي أبا الفرج وعبد المنعم ابن كليب والمبارك ابن المعطوش وطبفتهم ببغداد وابن طبرزد بإربل وجعفر بن محمد بن العباس بدنيسر..وكان عارفاً بالطب مجموع الفضائل وجمع تاريخاً لدنيسر..
