عرفت منذ اللحظة الأولى أنه حلم .
كانت مستلقية في سريرها، وكان السرير وسط غابة، وثمّة أوراق لحمية تنقط رذاذاً كأنه مطر، وقد تفتّحت أزهار الأوركيدا في الظلمة، وراحت عيون الأزهار اللامعة تراقبها. كانت قشور الثمر تخفق في الظل كأنها رئتان تنتفخان ثم تنحسران . هبّت نسمة هواء دافئة، تخلّلت الشجيرات، وداعبت شعرها فوق كتفيها العاريين .
كان المشهد يفتقد إلى شيءٍ ما، اتّضح لها، بعد وهلة، أنه أصوات الحيوانات، خيم السكون الغريب على تلك الغابة، ولم يُسمع سوى خشخشة القشور الرئوية المنتفخة وحشرجتها، في حين خرج من بين الأوراق صرير وزقزقة. احتاجت إلى أكثر من لحظة حتى أيقنت أن تلك هي أزهار الأوركيدا، التي يحكي بعضها لبعضٍ عنها .
تحرك شيء من وراء الأشجار الأمامية، ومر خيال أسود عبر الشجيرات بهدوء وخطوات خفيفة. راقبته روزا، وانتظرته لأنها عرفت أنه كان يقصدها .
فوجئت برشاقته عندما اقترب منها. انحل كبقعة حبر بين الظلال، وتبخر في الضوء ثانية على هيئة فهد. قام بدورة حول السرير منكمشاً على طريقة السنوريات، وما إن وصل إلى قدميها حتى ظل واقفاً، ووضع كفه الأسود على الشرشف الأبيض. صارت أزهار الأوركيدا تتهامس بسرعة على نحو هائج .
