تعتبر الإجازة من أشهر طرق التحمل التي يتم بواسطتها وصل الرواية وإتصال السند الذي خصّ الله تعالى به هذه الأمة، وميّزها به عن سائر الأمم، وقد كان من عادة شيوخ الإقراء إتحاف تلاميذهم بإجازة مكتوبة، بعد فراغهم من ختم القرآن الكريم وعرضه عليهم، سواء برواية واحدة، أو بروايات متعددة؛ فيكتب الشيخ إجازة لتلميذه، يُجيزه فيها بما قرأ عليه، ويبسط له فيها أسانيده وطرقه؛ مُعَرفاً بشيوخه وأسانيدهم المتصلة إلى تلك الروايات.
وتمتاز هذه الإجازة بعلو أسانيدها، وقلّة الوسائط فيها؛ رغم تأخر صاحبها، وجمعها بين مختلف الطرق القرائية المأخوذ بها، ولا تكاد حلقات أسانيدها تخلو من وجود أئمة أجلاء في القراءات وعلومها، وغير ذلك من المزايا التي ترفع من قيمة هذه الإجازة.
