الربا معدود من الكبائر التي نهى عنها الإسلام، وجعلها نذيراً لخراب المجتمع وفساده، وهو وسيلة لأكل أموال الناس بالباطل، ونذير شؤم لمحق المال لمن يتعاطاه، وهو منبع الظلم والحقد بين الناس، فهو المرض العضال؛ والسبب في توقف عملية التنمية الحقيقية. لكن مع كثرة التعاملات الاقتصادية الحديثة المتشعِّبة لا بد من أبحاث تقرأ الواقع الذي نعيشه؛ لهذا سطر المؤلف هذه الأبحاث ضمن هذا الكتاب، وبدأ الحديث عن ماهية الربا وعلة تحريمه، ولم يجعل تأليفه هذا ذا طابع أكاديمي كالمعتاد؛ فهذا أمر ميسور وموجود في كثير من المؤلفات، لكنه أراد أن يشير إلى اتجاهات جديدة في البحث؛ لعلها تفتح آفاقاً أخرى، وتُمهِّد لمنطلقات أوسع، فدخل في خضم الأبحاث العلمية مباشرة؛ لئلا يستنفد طاقة القارئ في ثنايا أمور قد أشبعتها مؤلفات كثيرة. وأراد أن ينطلق للبحث عن أمور مستجدة في الواقع الاقتصادي المعاصر، مستنداً إلى روح الشريعة الإسلامية ومقاصدها، وطرح في كتابه زاوية جديدة يمكن من خلالها - كما قال - أن يستعاض عن الفائدة المصرفية ببيع العملات في حل لمشكلة الربا، سماها: (سَلَم العملة)، قال في مقدمته: (وهو حلٌّ أرجو أن يراعي مقتضيات العصر من حيث البعد العملي والتنفيذي، ولا يواقع علة تحريم الربا من حيث الجانب الشرعي.. إلا أنني وجدت أن الحل ذاته يمكن أن يكون علاجاً للوضع الاقتصادي العالمي اليوم). ولم يدَّعِ أنه وفَّى الموضوع حقه؛ لأنه متداخلٌ متشعِّب، بحاجة إلى متخصصين في مجالات الفقه والمصارف والاقتصاد، وإنما وضع إضاءات يمكن أن تتضافر الجهود على إثرها، لوضع نموذج نظري لاقتصاد عالمي جديد.
