من خصوصيّات الأطروحة، الّتي يقدّمها هذا الكتاب، أنّه يوظّف النظريّات السابقة، الّتي تحلّل الحالة الإسرائيلية وعلاقتها بالمناطق المحتلّة، ويستفيد منها؛ لكنّه يحاول ألاّ يختزل العلاقة بمقولة مفهوميّة واحدة ووحيدة، إذ يعتبر الكاتبان أنّ التحليل، الّذي يرى في الوجود الإسرائيليّ حالة كولونياليّة بإمتياز، تحليل صحيح ومفيد؛ لكنّهما يعتبران أنّه لا يمكن إختزال الوجود الإسرائيليّ بإعتباره حالة كولونياليّة فقط، كذلك الأمر بالنسبة للأبرتهايد: إسرائيل تمارس نظام فصل واضح المعالم لكنّه ليس فقط أبارتهايد، وهو حالة الإحتلال لكنّه ليس إحتلالاً فقط.
عليه، فإنّ هناك ضرورة لتوظيف كلّ هذه الأطر المفهوميّة لكي يكون من الممكن القبض على خصوصيّة الحالة الإسرائيلية وتمييزها، تلك الحالة الّتي تكمن، ضمن أشياء أخرى، في القدرة على المزاوجة بين وضع الإحتلال وكأنّه "خارج" الدولة، ووضعه في الوقت نفسه "داخل" الدولة.
تكمن القيمة المضافة لهذا الكتاب، في هذه المرحلة المهمّة عربيّاً وفلسطينيّاً، في كونه يعرض مقولة مهمّة جدّاً، وإن لم تكن جديدة تماماً، ألا وهي أنّ إنهاء الإحتلال الإسرائيليّ يعني، ضمن ما يعنيه، تغيير النظام في إسرائيل، هذه مقولة مهمّة تنطوي عليها إستنتاجات بعيدة المدى.
