ياسوناري كواباتا (باليابانية: 川端 康成 كواباتا ياسوناري) المولود في 14 يونيو 1899 والمتوفى في 16 ابريل 1972 روائي ياباني أهله إبداعه النثري المكتوب بلغة شعرية راقية وغامضة للحصول على جائزة نوبل للأدب 1968؛ ليصبح بذلك أول أديب ياباني يحصل على الجائزة العالمية.

قرأت كاواباتا للمرّة الأولى قبل ثلاثة عقود بالإنجليزيّة، وكانت روايته "ضجيج الجبل"، الصادرة عام 1945، هي فاتحة ذلك السحر الذي ما انفك يشدّني ويدهشني ويعلّمني؛ ولقد وقعت على الفور في إغواء ترجمتها إلى اللغة العربيّة تحت إلحاح يقيني بأنّ من حقّ القارئ العربيّ أن يقرأ هذه التحفة، ثمّ صرفت النظر تحت ضغط قناعتي بأنّ من الأفضل نقلها عن الأصل اليابانيّ مباشرةً، ثمّ شاء حسن الطالع أن يأتي من يقنعني بأنّ إنتظار هذا الخيار المثاليّ قد يطول ويطول، وقد لا يتحقّق أبداً بالنظر إلى ندرة المترجمين مباشرةً عن اليابانيّة.
وهكذا اقنعت نفسي بدوري، وصدرت ترجمتها - في طبعتها الأولى - سنة 1983.
لا أخفي إنحيازي الأقصى إلى "ضجيج الجبل" بوصفها درّة أعمال كاواباتا، خصوصاً وأنّ موضوعتها المركزيّة تقوم بدورها على تحوّل البطل الشيخ اوغاتا شينغو من كائن حكاية الرومانس... إلى كائن الشخصيّة المأزومة المعطّلة بأفعال خارجيّة لها إنعكاساتها النفسيّة الداخليّة العميقة.
وهذا، في واقع الأمر، مختصر تاريخ الرواية: هبوط البطل الملحميّ من مصافّ الإلهة إلى مصاف البشر.
إنتماء كاواباتا إلى هذا الطراز من حداثة الرواية غاب عن حيثيّات الأكاديميّة السويديّة التي منحته جائزة نوبل للآداب عام 1968، فكان بذلك أوّل أديب يابانيّ يحصل على هذه الجائزة الغربيّة الرفيعة، وحين امتدحته الأكاديميّة بوصفه ممثلاً أميناً للتقاليد الأدبيّة اليابانيّة، أصيب اليابانيّون أنفسهم بالدهشة والحيرة، لأنّهم كانوا يعرفون - بداهةً - أنّ كاواباتا أديب حداثيّ، هو ثالث ثلاثة عمالقةٍ تربّعوا على سدّة الرواية اليابانيّة في النصف الأوّل من القرن العشرين...
