ينفتح النص الشعري عند عبد الله عبد الرحمن الزيد في مجموعته المعنونة "كأني بشمسها فوق عسبان النخيل" على فضاء الغياب، فتصبح القصيدة جسراً يربط بين الحاضر والمستقبل، الواقع وما وراء الواقع، لقد استطاع الشاعر عبر نصوصه هذه أن يجمع ثنائيات كثيرة، كثنائية الذات والآخر، وثنائية الواقع والحلم، فكلمة (العمر) في قصيدته المعنونة "أستجير بواحةِ الربّ" تحيل على الزمان، كما تحيل على الذات، وعلى الواقع والحلم، والقرب والبعد. يقول الشاعر في مطلع قصيدته "العمرُ .. / يوغلُ في الليالي .. / ليلةً .. / من بعد ليلة .. / ويغادر الأيام .. / يوماً .. / بعد يومٍ .. / طُلَّ .. / أو .. أحيا طلوله .. / العمرُ .. / يسرفً في الغيابِ / كمن أضاعَ .. / بجمرة الشكوى .. / دليلهُ .. / من غير أن تبقى لهُ .. / بعد الليالي هجمة .. / أو .. / تودعَ الأيامُ من ذكراهُ ...". وبهذا المعنى يبدو الشاعر أكثر قدرة على إدراك مكونات الذات العميقة، وخاصة عندما يتحول الشعر إلى كينونة متصلة بذات الشاعر / الإنسان عندئذٍ فقط تكون الكتابة هي روح الحياة، وعتبة الخلاص، وسر الوجود.
يضم الكتاب عشرة قصائد جاءت تحت العناوين الآتية: "مسافر في عنفوان الصبابة" ، "عدت من الوادي مرفوع الرأس بين الثقلين" ، "أفترض أن هذا ليس نصيبي" ، "لن توافيك الحكمة أيها المأزوم" (...) وعناوين أخرى.
