بدا التربويون وعلماء النفس الاهتمام بلعب الاطفال منذ منتصف القرن العشرين؛ وذلك بعد اكتشاف اهميته في تطور الطفل من نواح مختلفة. فدور الاباء والمعلمين بتربية الاطفال بدا ياخذ منحنى يهتم بالطفل وينادي باهمية تعلم الطفل المعلومة التي يراها هو مناسبة لقدراته مع الابتعاد عن فرض المفهوم واطعامه المعلومة بملعقة من فضة. اما نظرة علماء التربية فتتلخص في ان تكتشف ان الطفل يتعلم من لعبه بنفس قدر ومستوى الطفل الذي يتعلم في المدارس الرسمية التي تفرض المعلومات على الطفل وتقومه بمدى استيعابه لها. اما دورنا كبالغين فيجب تعليم الطفل المعلومة الجيدة واكسابه المهارات والكفاءات المتنوعة والمختلفة، للحصول على الصفقة كاملة من لعب ومرح للاطفال وكذلك اكتساب مهارات ومعلومات والحصول على الثقة بالنفس وتربية طفل سوي قادر على التعايش مع الحياة المعقدة الحديثة. وفي النهاية يتضح ان المحور الاساسي الذي يدور حوله الموضوع هو مفهوم اللعب واهميته في حياة الاطفال وكيفية تطبيقه في المدارس والاستفادة منه قدر المستطاع، مع بيان دور الاسرة والمجتمع والمؤسسات التربوية في تحديد مسؤوليتها تجاه نمو الاطفال بطريقة سوية ومتطورة.
